 With summer on the way, it’s almost time to dust off the sun lounger, grab a glass of water (or something a bit stronger) and get ready to top up your tan. But before you slap on the sun cream, you notice something truly depressing.

What happens when you don’t repaint your shed?

We spend more time in the garden during the warmer months, and our beautiful surroundings should help us to relax. And while it might sound silly to some, weather-worn sheds and fencing can put you off wanting to spend time outside.

Neglecting them can result in the wood:

• Looking tired, unloved and dated
• Discolouring
• Becing covered in moss
• Rotting

And while you might decide to leave it till next year, if it needs a lick of paint right now, leaving it another twelve months could result in the whole thing needing to be replaced.

How often should you repaint your shed or fence?

The average shed or fence in the UK needs to be repainted once every five years.

However, if you live in coastal areas or parts of the country with high levels of rainfall, then you should consider giving them a new coat every three-to-four years.

For the majority, five should suffice.

Why?

Because replacing sheds and fencing is expensive, and by treating them right, there’s no reason they shouldn’t last for decades – all for the price of a few pots of paint.
